Title: Mandrake Unearthed
Medium: Mixed Media
In 2005 I had a terrible bike accident fracturing my neck. After the bone healed, I went through a challenging time of residual issues, including chronic pain, emotional strife, and recovery from minor brain damage.
The catalyst to my healing, came on whim, and I decided to try my hand at sculpture. It was instantly therapeutic, and was altogether a unifying force of good in my life. Here I am, 8 years later, building on my skills and craft, utilizing subject matter from mythology and folklore.
I use characters from these stories because I am fascinated with the connections of our fears to our realities, and how , as a result, we put our fear into special and timeless stories that transcend the speaking of them around a campfire, sometimes evolving into a new belief system, or even a new religion.
